Learning through Play & Nature
At EDS, we follow the North American Association of Environmental Education's (NAAEE) Guidelines for Excellence in Early Childhood Environmental Education Programs. EDS provides its students with opportunities to learn about and investigate their environment, and, ultimately, teaches its students how they can grow up to care for their environment.
At EDS, we know and appreciate that Environmental Education:
- Allows our kids to construct their own learning through authentic experiences;
- Supports social-emotional development through play & exploration;
- Supports development of early literacy, artistic expression, & aesthetic appreciation;
- Supports physical education of physical gross & fine motor skills; and,
- Supports development of a sense of wonder & an appreciation of the natural world.
Teachers of Sprouts, Seedlings, and Buds & Blooms also utilize the Georgia Early Learning Standards (GELS) provided by Georgia's Bright from the Start office. The GELS guide our teachers in providing quality learning experiences and stress the importance of our staff's role in our students' learning processes. Above all, we learn through play!
